Default Wish we could gather up all the small guilds

I think there are tons of people in my situation.

The situation is this, small guild, only a few active. People in my situation don't want to leave their friends and don't want to put our fate into someone else's hands that might not have the same concepts of respect and fun game play that we do.

It's a hard spot to be in, should I quit and join another guild?

From my experience so far that just doesn't seem to work. There are so many guilds out there and so many leaders that aren't online enough to lead effectively. Alternately the rest of the leaders seem greedy and bossy.

We look at a guild and they sound great so I add them to my friends list to kind of spy on their online time and zero or one officer will get on for days. So I go on to the next guild but the line seems endless.

The only viable choice seems to be joining one of the big guilds. I know I don't want that. Even if I'm one of the few that gets picked I wouldn't like the in-guild competitive nature of having a big guild in this game.

I think the rotten thing for people like me is that my ultimate goal is to help the guild. I don't care if I ever get help, I don't want free items or runes, I don't want gold or supplies. I just want a place to hang out build up skill and help others.

I wish there was some way to group up all the people like me under one leader that's online and not after something for himself and start a great and friendly guild.

It seems to be easy for the unfriendly competitive guilds. The shouters in the cities have no problem finding members.

Its just a pity your situated East Coast USA Asdar There are a lot of very good guilds out there whom I'm sure share the same ethics as yourself.

The key is to finding one which fits most of your demands.Mind you it would help if there was a facility on here where Guilds could properly advertise ( where they would have to state key info about themselves) rather than the cumbersome way of having to private message people in the 'looking for guild' thread.

The guild choice is more like: do you go to the small, family-operated store at the neighborhood corner, or do you go to Walmart. There are advantages in either. You can always keep some of your old guildies in friendly list so can ask them to invite you back if needed. If helping others is all you want, then try to help those guildless ones. They're most likely true new players who need help, and not second characters of some veteran players.

You guys aren't alone. I've noticed this for awhile, and just now am trying to do something about it. It's really tough as there are so many guilds out there, and trying to get them to join is very difficult as no one wants to leave their guild name (me included). What I've been doing is leading PuG + guildies in the tombs, get a couple wins, maybe get lucky to take HoH, and later on add the good players to my list and ask them if they would like to join. There is a reason that there are a lot of pick up groups in the tombs: their guild is probably too small and they don't have enough on to forumulate a guild only team.

A friend of mine gave me an idea for a guild allience, and setting up some rooms in a shared Vent Channel such that both guilds would have no problem finding other people to group with. I am considering a merger, but at this moment I will need to think about it some more, or talk it over with other guild leaders. If anything, feel free to look me up.

I would definately consider an alliance... We do have a TS server right now but I think its limited to 10 people. We are East Coast mostly!

I am with u. I have been thinking about a merge to but no idea how to find another small guild. in my guild there is like 10 people but only 4/5 active. ready to drop it and find more bringing my r/l friends with me, the 4/5 active ones. stopping me is the guild hall i got because of hrs of farming saving up the 60k+ between me and my officers. would be more than willing to bring in another guild as mine or if they have a hall bring mine to theirs. i put my guild info in the site not sure if it is up yet. if someone wants to talk about a bring guilds tog. add me to ur friends Guvna Craft, im always on prob been on Andy, or I R I M I S.

Also east coast no TS but i know my officer can get us one since he had one in the other games we played tog.

While not the leader of my guild, I was recently promoted to an officer. That being said, I can empathize with all of you. I dont want to be another face in the crowd with the larger guilds, but i do get frustrated when I look at the activity log and see that over half of the guild has not been on in over a week or more. I think that we have one or two pushing the 4-5 week time frame. This makes it hard sometimes to run any missions because I am finding my slef at the mercy of the local pickup group, which can be a train wreck looking for a track.

I have my guild started it for the casual gamer who didn't get to play but a little everday. Ya know those of use with jobs. Thought it was a good idea this way you have people around all the time who all play at diff time so it would be easier to meet up and group even if it was only 2 or 3 of ya it was better than all henchies. Plus i hate not having real humans around.

Needless to say the guild never took off i even have a guild hall some kick ass capes and i think a pretty cool name for the guild we are listed on the registry so in any other small guild are looking to merge and want a guild hall in the package please pm me or whisper me in game. I may have started this guild but am by no means a tyrant i just want to have fun

I've been trying to get some smaller guilds to join forces with mine, I just really want to play proper GvG battles and the such, and my guild altho growing just isn't quite there. There was 1 guild that wanted to merge, and then changed their mind because they wanted to get their own guild hall and didn't want my guild name.. now I feel a bit guilty because one of their members said if the merge didn't happen they might just leave the guild, now I feel like I've poached a player :P
But yes, if any European guilds want to talk about a possible merge, I'm open for suggestion - IGN Lyssa of Yendor, or if you want to do a guild battle, message me also

I too understand, we took on a lot of members at first knowing that most would weed themselves out but what bothers me is that the guild officers and leader are the only ones who have registered on the guild site. We managed to have one GvG (got crunched) and had a couple members that weren't officers show up but other than that it's been static. I also think part of the problem is that there are too many leaders and not enough followers in this game. It seems that everybody wants to start a guild for themself... which is a neat concept (having your own guild), but what good is it if there isn't anybody to follow?

with that said, is there a way we could make a list of 'small guilds' and those guilds just ban together untill their member activity picks up (it is also the start of summer and many are on vaccation or adjusting to seasonal changes at home and work).

our group is mainly central standard time, playing in the evenings.

I motion for a "Small Guilds Alliance" board

^^^

These are exactly the reasons why this GW player hasn't joined a guild yet and will not join one for a few months at least.

The "bigger" guilds themselves don't have more than 12-15 active players, the smaller ones have 4-5 actives. Often compounding the whole pointlessness of joining a guild from my perspective is the absence of a vibrant TS community and enough people who just play 4-6 hours every dayand who keep a level head and have fun. No christian evangelical guilds or Ipwn daNoobiez peeps for me.

What smaller guilds have getting in the way is just little details. "I wont give up my cape, i wont give up my hall, I wont give up my guild name"...even when there are only a handful of actives and most peple with any real talent will never join their guild because of that...and precisely this attitude of NOT looking at the bigger picture.

Too many egos and too few level heads around, IMO. Take this from a player who has not joined a guild in this game because the imperfections of too many are too apparent:

Chuck the "my cape awesome, my guild name awesome, my guild hall awesome, will not change it, if you wanna merge u join us" stuff. Get out of that mindset already. Look at where your guild is and where you would want to be. Don't be yet another one of those 2837 guilds out there whose guild leader thinks he has a fine cape-fine name-fine hall. Be one of the few guilds out there whose leader knows he has a great community HE needs to serve.

Being a leader isn't an exercise in ego-tripping. It's a chance to make comfortable those who are under you, help them make the best of their gaming experience and facilitate the building of a virtual home away from home.

I think Terminal actually speaks some sense and sooner rather than later the smaller guilds hand's will be forced as without adequate numbers they cannot compete on the guild ladder in PvP if that is their aim.

This is rather frustrating. Our guild (Gentlemens Club), is by no means small. We have about 25 members, I believe. However, the problem is that there's only 1-6 guildies active at one time, 7 if we're lucky. 'Bout 10 people haven't logged on for over 2 weeks, and the leader hasn't actually been truly active (on for 3+ hours per day for a few days) for over a month. Many of us come from the Adventure Quest (Online flash-based rpg) forums, and we're already friends from there, so us actives (we're basically the same people) don't want to abandon each other. We've discussed all leaving, but the concensus was clear: This guild has done so much for us. Many of our members have quit from sheer boredom, and this leaves us in a tight situation. Leaving would probably be in our best interests, but we're kind of emotionally attached to the guild.

Take the active interested members and start your own. There are many small active guilds out there that would take good people. Look around, there are many more then people think.

well, i kinda know how you feel, my guild currently has 6 members doing gvg. we had 5 friends originally and picked up a pretty cool guy for our 6th. we did 4v4 for bout 3-4 days to get a feel for each other and to develope chemistry. after that, we scheduled a time when everyone was free to compete. we then bring our 6 and 2 hench in. its worked pretty well up until today, when we got trashed by negative zero(sorry, had to throw that in, its like i met a celebrity or sumthin). so i guess we hafta start recruiting as well. but once u guys get ranked, finding recruits shouldnt be as hard. the problem then will be finding someone who'll be able to fit in. well i guess my advice is to stick with it and try to run some gvg's with ur currently active members. see where that goes. who knows? u might march right up the rankings...

Hey, i've been in the same situation as well. I added a lot of your names to my friends list (Guvna Craft, Kewen Latronis, Shenrei Freyja). Our guild has 9, 3 of which are very active, and 5 of which play only an hour a day or so. (still not bad I guess from what I've been reading).

I know it's hard to give up your identity, which is why I propose that we just ally for some tombs action. Get to know each other, and maybe if things click we can merge.

My game name is The Fighting Bear, guild is Da Bearsss, and yes, my pvp char's name is Coach Mike Ditka.

I even saved up and bought a guild hal for now a guild of three.
So if anyone is intersted whisper me in game if you don't mind changing names i am willing to just be a figurehead and need no real control over the guild i would just like some folks who are willing to play.
I think getting people from a bunch time zones is also very important as you grow that way there is always some one on line from the guild to hook up with if you need help in a quest and such

I'm thinking about the possibility of a merger with another guild as well and for all the same reasons listed above. Although I'm currently working on building up my monk to be Tombs-ready (and doing lots of PvE this last week because of it), I'm primarily focused on PvP and have had the privelege of winning HoH a couple of times and gaining some rank with the use of my Elementalist.

I actually never thought too much (or too highly) about a guild merger... the group of around eight people who are currently in this guild are fairly close friends who have been gaming in GW since the beginning of the beta events. The main problem with our current situation is that we have two or three members who are active while the other people have gone for a week or more without logging on. Those active members (of which one of those is myself) are extremely active. I'm in-game at least two hours a day working on different RP characters to unlock skills and other things, and another two or three hours doing Arena or Tombs. This game is a guild-based game, and you can't enjoy some of the major parts of the game without an active guild.

Here are some things that CoE has and would like to keep if a guild merger is taken:

Website/Domain/Forum: We would like to keep the domain and forum (http://forum.councilofexile.com) because this has been an out-of-pocket cost that has been paid up front for a year. On top of that, it has been a fairly good amount of work that we have put in, and we are constantly adding different mods and changing the style to make the forum better for our guild members. I hope the clan that will consider merging with us will have some people who are interested in forum/website administration and design, but this isn't necessary... I've done everything so far based on feedback from our current members and I can continue that in whatever spare time I have.

Voice Communication: Also, we have a TeamSpeak server that is available through the end of the year (ts.councilofexile.com:9802). It is password-protected of course with our current members already registered, so it would be convenient for us (and possibly the merged clan) to keep this server. This isn't necessary though... we can make the needed change to use any voice communication server (including Vent) if requested. Voice communication while in-game at all times is a must if we are going to merge.

High Level of PvP Activity: The whole reason for this merger offer is to get active members into a combined guild who are all focused on grouping for PvP in Tombs and guild battles. Our current members have been doing PvP in Tombs and guild battles throughout the beta events and after release and are frustrated with how hard it is to be successful with PUGs. It can happen, but it would be so much easier with the guild. If a guild is considering this, then take the time to verify whether or not you have the active members that would be required for this.

Combined Leadership: Our current leadership is made up of all our current members. I try to provide as much organization as possible, but the rules are made by our members. On that note, our members are older with our youngest member around 20 (oldest being about as old as dirt ). We aren't looking for a guild exactly like this and have no problem bringing in younger members, but that's just some information about us that will help you in your decision. We like to have fun in-game and we know each other well. All that being said, we don't have any problems sharing the leadership with every member who comes into the group from the new guild. You will have just as much say in how things go as the rest of us, but maturity and the good of the group needs to come first when making decisions.

This whole post about merging is just what I've discussed with our current members, and it's the beginning of a process that will involve lots of in-game grouping and talking on TS before it actually happens. I'm sure everyone knows that merging can have problems, and I'd like to eliminate as much of that as possible beforehand. An interested guild can either find me in-game or send me a PM and we'll go from there.

==================================================

That's the end of my 'merging' post. I haven't heard from the moderators on this type of postings... it borders on the line of recruitment. I know you guys won't hesitate to let us know if merging posts are considered against forum policies. Merges can really help the PvP situation I think... if the merge is well-planned and with like-minded guilds.
